Sliding on the Cheap! Our Last Newsletter, Season Continues, Great Conditions, Deals, Swag, More!

Hello Sliders!

Sniff...yes, dear sliders, the day has come once again.
Our last (regular) SOTC newsletter of the season.
We will send out a blast to our (dear) readers
for super specials that we think can't wait
till next fall.  Is the season over?  Not by a long
shot.  In fact, the crew had a great day
at Heavenly yesterday.

*A Picture (almost) better than SOTC!
Wow, after having some great skiing and
riding the past week, it's hard to express
to our Bay Area sliders how good the skiing
and riding remains in Tahoe and Bear Valley.
Check the resort websites for pictures
and videos, generally updated daily.  Squaw
Valley, Northstar & Heavenly all post both
customer and daily  in-house video of the mountain
and slopes.

*Springtime Hot Deals at Granlibakken
Granlibakken Resort welcomes spring in Lake Tahoe with warm days
and hot deals. During the month of April, take advantage of Granlibakken’s
reduced rates with special spring ski packages.

Choose your line at Alpine Meadows, Homewood, Mt. Rose, Northstar-at-Tahoe,
Sierra-at-Tahoe, Squaw Valley or Sugar Bowl and enjoy reduced rate
packages during April.

April 1 – Stay and ski for $109/person each day*.
April 10 – Stay and ski for $99/person each day*.
April 20 – Stay and ski for $89/person each day*.

Packages include lodging, adult lift ticket, hot breakfast buffet and use
of sauna, heated outdoor pool and hot tub.

Make your reservations today, call 877-552-6303 for these special rates.
(make sure to mention SOTC)

*Rates are per person, per night. Lift tickets availability subject to
snow conditions and resort closures.

*Northstar-at-Tahoe
Northstar has tons of great spring events!
http://www.slidingonthecheap.com/springns.shtml

The mantra at Northstar® Resort is "A good day."
Use your digital camera to capture everything that makes up your
good day at Northstar Resort. The big, sweeping vistas, the funny moments,
the random scenes, whatever inspires you. Northstar favorites will be selected for
use in the 2008.09 advertising campaigns!  For each photo selected,
the participant will receive two complimentary 2008.09 lift tickets,
valid daily, non-holiday.

Submit your best low resolution images to Northstar via email to
agooddayphotos@northstarattahoe.com by May 3, 2008.

*Is the Season Over, You Ask?
Far from it!  In fact, the SOTC crew spent yesterday at
Heavenly and found fantastic midwinter snow conditions.
The entire Nevada side of the mountain felt like our
own personal playground where fellow sliders
were hard to be found...not that we're complaining,
we (selfishly) like the mountain to ourselves.

We even found wind-packed powder in Mott Canyon
and good snow right down to lodge level at both
California and Nevada parking lots.
Bring a parka, dear sliders, as the mountain remains
brisk at 10,000 feet, likely that is keeping the snow in
such great shape.

*Want cheap lodging on South Shore?
Geez, you can't go wrong with Motel 6.
$37.99 a night, booked on www.motel6.com
It's a great location and $37.99???  Can't pass
that up, especially with the great ski conditions.
Take a look-see for yourself at the website,
we should have some pictures from yesterday's
conditions posted at slidingonthecheap,.com
later today.

Make sure to check out Heavenly's $369.00
season pass, on sale now!  Details below in the
regular Heavenly section!

*Deals, Dear Sliders?
Just because it's the last newsletter of the season, that doesn't
mean we're off our game. NORTHSTAR has a ton of great spring deals,
SIERRA-AT-TAHOE sliders can save $30 off their 2008/2009 Double Whammy
as part of their Earth Day Celebration, see details in regular Sierra section,

*Mike Pechner's SnowCast!
Light snow fell in the Sierra last night, mostly south of Bear
Valley with light amounts near Mammoth.  It will be sunny ands a little
warmer today thru Saturday with highs in the 40's to low 50's with lows
in the teens to low 20's with the usual inversion above 8000 ft.  A
weak weather system moves in late Sunday for a possibility of some snow
showers thru Monday a.m. but computer forecast models have not been
performing to well of late. However, all models show a COLD, WINTER
storm next Tuesday and Wednesday that could produce significant powder
freshies.  In the meantime, expect excellent early Spring conditions
with 3 to 10 feet of snow on the slopes.

Sliding on the Cheap! $15 Northstar Tixs Tax Day, Sugar Bowl Totally Tubular, Heavenly's Spring Loaded, More!

Hello Sliders!

Still plenty of snow in the High Sierra and deals
abound...
In fact, we've never seen such a bounty
of spring ski and snowboard deals, lodging deals and fun events,
all crammed into the next couple of weeks.

You've got all summer to knock yourself off that Mountain Bike, the
snow is only going to last a few more weeks!  Come on up to Tahoe,
(or Bear Valley as we sometimes forget to say), and enjoy the best
part of the season.

Deals you ask....  We've got so many deals, that for the first time
in memory, we've had to create links for several resorts, including
fantastic values at both Northstar-at-Tahoe and Heavenly

In addition to discounts galore, we've got the ever popular "Dummy
Downhill" events taking place at Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe and Diamond
Peak.  Dummy Downhill does not refer to the classic holiday-only
sliders, who fling themselves off the steepest cornice in sight
equipped with (Ebay purchased) Hexcel honeycomb skis and sporting
(classic) Wayne Wong mirrored sunglasses...  (while the girlfriend
takes a fleeting picture via cell phone.)

No dear sliders, these events are strictly real dummies and pretty
funny, if you've never attended.

*Mike Pechner's SnowCast!
Cooler temperatures and gusty winds moved into the Sierra yesterday
in advance of a weak weather system that will produce a few inches
of snow, mainly from U.S.  50 north later today.  Clearing skies
tonight and colder temperatures will allow those resorts to make
snow if they want to.  There is a break between weather system
tomorrow before a stronger weather front from the Gulf of Alaska
on Friday.  It could slow weekend skiers and boarders headed for
the new snowfall expected early Saturday.  Skies clear Sunday with
sunny skies and warmer temperatures on Monday.  Longer range models
hint a one more system around the middle of next week.
