Mutton Bustin' Fun at the Beaver Creek Rodeo- 7/5/2007   A MESSAGE REGARDING THE LAKE TAHOE WILDFIRE Vail Resorts, Inc. announced that it will donate a minimum of $75,000 to aid those impacted by the Angora Fire near South Lake Tahoe, Calif. where it operates Heavenly Mountain Resort, the region’s largest ski resort. Five dollars from every Heavenly season pass purchased between June 24, the day the fire began, and December 2007 will go to local residents affected by the fire, which has destroyed over 3,100 acres and approximately 229 homes. Vail Resorts will look to aid residents who urgently need essentials such as clothing, food and shelter and will advance funds as necessary and as requested by relief agencies. Vail Resorts and Heavenly are partnering with the South Lake Tahoe community and local businesses to manage the distribution of collective funds. Read the full message>>

TOP 5 WILDFLOWER VIEWING SPOTS 1. Beaver Creek- Take the Spruce Saddle loop trail for incredible vistas full of red Indian Paintbrushes, Purple Columbine, and Indigo Lupine. Don't forget to look up and marvel at the views of the Gore Range as well. 2. Breckenridge- Drive south out of Breckenridge on U.S. 9 about 2.4 miles from the last light. Turn right on Spruce Creek Rd. and proceed for about 1.2 miles to a well marked Crystal Lakes parking area and trailhead. This hike starts just below timberline and will take you through lush alpine meadows teaming with wildflowers from June through September. 3. Heavenly- From the top of the Gondola hiking trails, you can view an abundance of wildflowers. The Sierra Nevada Mountains are known for their wildflower varieties and beauty. Viewing can be done from any of our three hikes. 4. Vail-Wildflowers abound near Vail. Try the top of Eagle's Nest around the Wedding Deck, the Betty Ford Alpine Garden, the top of Shrine Pass off of Vail Pass, the Grand Traverse Mountain Bike ride on Vail Mountain or Piney Lake. 5. Keystone- Grab a Keystone Bike Map and hop on the Summit Express Chairlift for a ride to the top of Dercum Mountain. Bear Valley News - Summer Music Comes to the Mountains

39th Annual Bear Valley Music Festival Music comes back to the mountains this summer for the 39th season of the Bear Valley Music Festival. As usual, the festival’s spectrum will span pop, opera, show tunes, jazz and country/western music. This year’s event kicks off with country music singer/ songwriter, Rosanne Cash, on Saturday evening July 28. And there’s more. Behind the scenes, the Festival is a largely volunteer effort. It hosts one of California’s foremost music camps for aspiring young musicians; offers creative entertainment for children; and supports the visual arts (including a wildly popular annual art auction). Its “Broadway Pops” musical theater, operatic performances (“Merry Wives of Windsor” is this year’s treat), and symphony orchestra bring adoring crowds to the mountains year after year. The Festival is an outdoor musical experience conducted under the shade of a 1,250- seat tent. Granite peaks of the surrounding Sierra Nevada offer an unparalleled and inspiring setting. Exclusive Heavenly Photo Seminar

This seminar is limited to 25 participants and is a rare opportunity to learn from world renowned photographers while gaining exclusive access to Heavenly Mountain.

Participants in the program will learn how to turn their photographs into works of art. Jon Paul and Ryan Salm, both having been named "Tahoe's Best Photographers", will help participants see Lake Tahoe through the camera lens, focusing on color, contrast, subject and more.

Day 1 with Ryan Salm
Access the mountain in places reserved only for wildlife. The day will start with an exclusive lunch, looking over Lake Tahoe at the Gondola Mid-station deck. After lunch a ride to the high alpine environment of Monument Peak where views of Tahoe, Jobs Peak and the Carson Valley will unfold offering unlimited opportunity for spectacular photography.

Camera in hand and his life on his back, Ryan Salm traversed over 30 countries on 6 continents. Journeys on back roads with the local people have created a common theme in Ryan's work. Radiant colors, vivid landscapes, and enticing faces are the cornerstone of his photography.

Ryan has published work in the Tahoe Quarterly, Canoe & Kayak Magazine and won an award at the 2005 Banff Film Festival.

Ryan Salm was named "Best Photographer in Tahoe 2006"


Day 2 with Jon Paul
Meet Jon Paul at his Gallery and then enjoy an exclusive after hours ride on the Gondola for sunset, an experience reserved only for the most fortunate. Jon Paul will teach the finer points of sunset photography as the sky explodes with color. Wine and beverages will be waiting along with a filling array of hors 'd oeuvres.

Jon's amazing eye for the natural world, and masterful use of 4x5 inch and 2 1/4 x 6 3/4 inch panorama film formats, composes idyllic images that enable all of us to "Bring Nature Home".

"The cumbersome nature of my equipment requires me to study my subject matter and plan well, resulting in stronger, more meaningful compositions. The large size of the film I use, along with the critical focus my bellows camera enables me to achieve and produce the largest, sharpest prints possible. This high level of quality results not only in a fine piece of art, but in the expression of the significance of nature I experience as an artist."

Many people have lost their homes and all of their worldly possessions.  The Bear Valley Sport Shop in Bear Valley Village is working with a relief coordinator in Kirkwood to host a Relief Drive for the South Lake Tahoe fire victims.  Monetary and non-perishable food donations provide the best support for the victims.
