Sliding on the Cheap! Northstar Mountain Bike Park Opens!

Hello Summer Sliders!

Dear sliders, contrary to mountain myth, the Sliding on the Cheap
crew does not lower the shades and watch endless reruns of Warren
Miller movies like high altitude Howard Hughes clones!

No way! We're out on mountain bikes, hiking and even doing a little
world class fly-fishing, right at home on the Truckee River, enjoying
the Tahoe summer right up until our (beloved) snow returns next
fall.

Do you need biking or outdoor gear, and need it cheap? Check out
our Sports Basement and Sportsbasement.com discount for SOTC readers
below!

* Northstar's Mountain Bike Park is Open Again!
Resort's mountain bike park is open for the 2007 summer
season offering two full new trails, five trail segments, skills
development areas and increased lift access with the addition of
the Tahoe Zephyr Express. With more than 100 miles of trails,
Northstar Resort's bike park is the largest in Northern California
and is sure to please even the most technical of riders.

This season's new trails and trail segments include:

Coaster - A new intermediate trail that runs top to bottom off of
the Tahoe Zephyr Express lift, Coaster consists of fire road sections
that connect smooth single track.

Gypsy - This new expert trail consists of manicured berms, tabletop
jumps, step downs, rock drops and log rides that create a smooth
flow and run top to bottom.

Playground - A short, sweet expert trail, the Playground was built
for riders who love to catch some air. The Playground is unique
to Northstar Resort in that it splits into two lines that ride
side-by-side each other.

Big Trees & Little Trees - These expert trails literally make riders
feel like they're on a roller coaster. With never ending rollers
that give you a weightless feeling every few seconds, Big Trees and
Little Trees serve as host to Northstar Resort's longest log ride
and the new 120-foot Boardwalk feature that takes riders over a
gnarly rock garden.

Over Under - This expert trail contains the only feature of its
kind at Northstar Resort. True to its name, this trail features a
planed log that goes over the top of the main trail.

Northstar Resort's mountain bike park is open daily, weather and
conditions permitting, through September 3 and Friday-Sunday until
October 7. Operating hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday-Sunday and
10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

Helmets are required for all riders, and can be rented along with
bikes and other equipment at the resort. Daily lift tickets are
required for lift access and can be purchased for $39. Mountain
bike park season passes are also available for $229.
