not a creature was stirring, not even the laptop mouse. Every
couch, every chair and even the floor, was littered with sliders,
too tired to snore...
When all of a sudden there arose such a clatter, the fireplace
rocked and the roof seemed to shatter!
She woke with a start and jumped up from the floor; rushed down the
stairs and flew open the door. He stood in the snow, wearing
(Iridium) Verticals and a grin. Decked out in Spyder from toes to
his chin.

Over the holidays, try purchasing your lift ticket near home, either
from a ski shop or resort promotional tie-in partner. The Heavenly
deal at SaveMart is an example and Costco sells tickets at a great
price with participating resorts, including Diamond Peak. Check
REI for lift ticket discounts in the Bay Area.
*Holiday Sliding Tips!
Get the crew out of the house/hotel/motel early! If you arrive at
10:00am, it's a sure bet you're gonna wait in line somewhere. If
you need to rent gear, get to the resort early! Better yet, rent
at one of the local ski shops, night before you plan to slide.
Take ten minutes and purchase your lunch at Safeway, before heading
to the mountain. Leave it in a locker/car. At the end of the day,
$100 will have magically appeared back in your wallet. The Crew
lives on Safeway Deli Food and we're still alive to tell the tale!
Kids. Kids. Kids. Most Tahoe resorts cater toward families. Find
out who offers free or discounted kids tickets. Squaw Valley for
instance, a world class resort, offers kids 12 and under lift tickets
for just $10.00, valid over the holiday.
Other resorts, like Northstar-at-Tahoe, offer world class children's
programs, half and full day that include lunch and snacks. "Parent
Share" tickets, so parents can trade off skiing and baby-sitting
make it much easier on young families. Alpine Meadows, already a
bargain, has such a ticket. Super Kids Bargain? Try Planet Kids
at Soda Springs!
Okay. You've blown it and forgot to pre-purchase tickets. If
you've planned to ski or ride one resort--purchase a multiday ticket.
That will save time and money. Our favorites include: Diamond Peak,
Squaw Valley and Sierra-at-Tahoe's 3 Pak.
While Alpine Meadows will have the best (big mountain) price on a
holiday "walk up and purchase" lift ticket, there are other bargains
that might not seem so obvious. Do you need a world-class mountain?
The smaller mountains traditionally offer great value. If you're
a beginner, do you really need 3,000 feet of vertical? Try Boreal,
Homewood, Diamond Peak, Tahoe Donner, Soda Springs and Donner Ski
Ranch for great lift ticket values.
*The Last Minute Getaway!
You've got a few days off...but lodging is booked everywhere around
Lake Tahoe. Try Reno, Carson City, even Boomtown. Reno will have
(cheap) lodging packages that won't require you to give up your
pension for three days of fun...unless you play unlimited Keno.
Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe and Reno create some of the least known, but
best value packages around. Take the shuttle up to Mt. Rose, leave
the car in the lot. http://www.skirose.com/ to check out these
packages. It's an hour drive from Carson City to Heavenly, but
over the holiday, you'll find lodging deals that are unreal.

4 to 10" of new snow to add to the 8 to 18" that fell overnight on the
slopes. Some areas are reporting up to a 5 feet pack. The current
storm ends tonight with col, dry weather Friday thru Sunday. We could
