March means spring skiing and riding, and deals for our readers.
With a monster base, and likely more snow on the way, it's a sure
bet that all resorts will remain open into April and resorts like
Heavenly, Squaw and Alpine could continue operation, right into
May. We're getting reports of spring conditions, dear sliders,
which means hard pack in the morning, softening in the afternoon.
Tip: Make sure your skis and boards are tuned and slide
the sun: start your day on southern exposure slopes,
then ride northern exposure in the afternoon!

*Mike Pechner's SnowCast!
A storm system moving south out of Canada into the Great Basin
produced cold, gusty northeasterly winds yesterday in the Sierra and
the highs were only in the 30's to low 40's about a 10 degree drop
from earlier in the week. Winds will ease today and under sunny skies
temperatures will rebound a few degrees each day into the weekend. It
now appears that any weather system next week will probably be pretty
weak.
Earliest possibility of any significant snow is not likely to the end
of next week when forecast models show a cold storm from the Gulf of
Alaska headed for the Sierra. Otherwise look for excellent spring conditions
for boarders and skiiers in the meantime.
