Sliding on the Cheap! Snow Inbound, Sports Basement SnowFest Tonight, Sierra Pray For Snow Party, Freebies, More!

Hello Sliders!

We've got the inside scoop from our own in-house weather Guru, KCBS
meteorologist, Mike Pechner. While the storm inbound this weekend
probably won't amount to much, there's significant snow inbound for
November 18th and 19th, meaning that Thanksgiving could have as
much as three feet of natural snow, in addition to snowmaking.
Check Mike's forecast below, then make your Thanksgiving and Christmas
reservations!

Who's Gonna Open When?
Boreal tells me perhaps as early as November 11th or 12th. Heavenly,
Northstar, Squaw, Alpine, Kirkwood, Sugar Bowl and Sierra are
shooting for November 16th or 17th, pending weather and conditions.
Check your resort websites for updates.

Ticket Prices?
They'll have discounted ticket prices, given the reduced terrain.
We'll give you the skinny on best deals through the newsletter,
sliders--provided we're not neck-deep in powder!

What's on the (deal) platter this week?
- Sports Basement SnowFest Thursday night from 5pm-8pm. Your chance
to load up on gear up to 70% off. Make sure to mention SOTC at
checkout for an additional 10% off.
- Warren Miller's new movie, Off The Grid, is hitting the Bay Area.
- Sierra-at-Tahoe is hosting their annual Pray for Snow party, November
15th.
- The Bay Area Ski & Snowboard Show lands in San Jose this weekend.
Want more? Scan down dear sliders for a bounty of information and
deals.

*Mike Pechner SnowCast!
The storm this weekend will be enough to drop (only) a few inches
of snow, but it will lower temps enough that you can bet resorts
will make enough snow to get some slopes open. The big news: Looks
like major snow inbound around the 18th and 19th and it's not gonna
stop. December snowfall appears very good on the longer range
forecasts. Powder for Christmas in my stocking!

Don't Miss!

Sliding on the Cheap! How to Purchase (cheap) Corporate Tickets, Sports Basement SnowFest, Polarized Verts, More!

Hello Sliders!

Three weeks until the official beginning of the ski and snowboard
season and the resorts are humming.  Our focus is CORPORATE TICKETS,
this week, our annual tradition where I detail out the best corporate
ticket programs for your savings pleasure.  These tickets are deeply
discounted, and counter to what you might think are readily available
to just about everyone.

We've got tons of info this week, all distilled down into near
rocket fuel concentration.  To find what you're looking for, simply
scan down.  Don't forget to see if you've won a NORTHSTAR/SIERRA
lift ticket, or a pair of our (fabulous) Vertical sunglasses in our
weekly drawing below.

"Kev, when are you back in stock on polarized Black ICE Verticals?"
Okay, dear sliders, we're now BACK IN STOCK on polar Black ICE.
We've got snowboard beanies too, plus iridium Verts and all your
favorites.  Check the Ebay store for details.
http://stores.ebay.com/slidingonthecheap

*Corporate Tickets?  How Do We Score These?
Your name is not Jobs, Gates or Buffet?  Your G-V isn't gassed and
ready to fly at a moments notice.  BTW, any of our readers have a
G-V?  That's a Gulfstream V, corporate jet...  (sweeeet)

No matter, dear sliders, just about ANYONE, or group can qualify
to purchase deeply discounted corporate tickets.  It's more about
buying tickets in bulk (25-50) upfront.

The perks?
You can purchase tickets up to 30% off the face value. Most corporate
tickets are VALID over the holidays, unlike discount tickets!
If you have tickets remaining at the end of the season, you can
return them for money back at many resorts. Tickets
are direct to lift, no waiting in line with a voucher on a busy
holiday.  You're cutting First Tracks!

Tickets must be purchased in lots, generally a minimum of 25-50
tickets, some initial purchases include (bonus) free tickets.

Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe, bless their hearts, won't bill until spring.
While tickets can be ordered throughout the season, you've got to SIGN-UP
for Corporate Ticket Programs during the fall. We love them, so will you!

*SAVE 20% WITH NORTHSTAR RESORT'S CORPORATE TICKET PROGRAM
Place your company's corporate ticket order before November 30,
2007 and lock in the lowest rate possible - only $58 for adult lift
tickets!  There are other benefits available such as discounted
lodging and more.  Tickets are also valid at their sister resort
on the South Shore, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort.  Visit www.NorthstarAtTahoe.com
or call (530) 550-2610 for details.

*Vertical Sunglasses!
We just got our supply of polarized Black ICE Verticals in stock,
and a ton of new styles as well as the classic Fall Line and Iridium.
We also added our own line of Snowboard Beanies!

*Sports Basement's Annual SnowFest!
If you've been to the Sports Basement SnowFest,  you know it's

Visit with your favorite Tahoe Resorts for details on the best
season pass deals.  Get the inside scoop on the latest gear from
the top Ski and Snowboard vendors.  DJ's will be spinning as the
crowds attack the free food and drinks.  Plus FREE raffle giveaways
will include season passes to Bear Valley, Spy goggles, Bern helmets,
a Ride snowboard, Smith helmets and goggles, lift tickets and much
more!

Sliding on the Cheap! Heavy Snow in Sierra, Alpine/Homewood Combo Pass, Early Season Deals, More!

Hello Sliders!

Snowing heavily in Tahoe!  Boreal, atop Donner Summit, reporting
nine inches of fresh snow by noon with more on the way.  Yes, dear
sliders, it happens every season.  One second it's 80 degrees, the
next, you're in a mad dash to dig out your gear.

Fear not dear sliders!  We have you covered.  Boreal is generally
the first resort open with early snow, and this year appears to be
no exception.  They are scheduled to open on October 31st, and with
fresh snow, expect many other resorts to be opening early as well.

*Alpine Meadows and Homewood Combo Season Pass!
For the first time, Alpine Meadows and Homewood Mountain Resort are
offering the all new Alpine/Homewood Adult Midweek Combo Pass for
just $649.  Visit skialpine.com or skihomewood.com for more details.

The benefits of using the new Alpine/Homewood Combo Pass include
access to 3,400 acres of the most varied terrain and vertical feet,
mountain-top views of Lake Tahoe, plus the new high speed detachable
quad at Homewood -- delivering you from mid-mountain to the summit
in just 4 minutes.  And the best part, Alpine Meadows and Homewood
are not miles apart...  a mere 15-minute drive from each other.

Purchase your Full Season, Midweek or Combo Passes & Family Season
Passes at skihomewood.com or skialpine.com.  Midweek Combo Pass

Alpine/Homewood Combo Pass

*What the...?   La Nina, El Nino?
Why the sudden winter?  Our meteorologist, KCBS weather guru Mike
Pechner says we're headed for a La Nina winter, meaning colder than
normal ocean water temps.  While we won't get pounded with severe
winter storms like El Nino, it's likely to SNOW and not RAIN at
higher elevations, and the temperatures could range below normal,
meaning better snow, top to bottom.  A welcome change from El Nino,
when we get plenty of rain along with all that powder.

*Northstar-at-Tahoe and Sierra-at-Tahoe Double Whammy Passes on Sale!
One of the best season pass deals in Tahoe, you're sliding two
world-class ski/snowboard resorts for a song

weather and conditions permitting.)

*How about Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe
For our Reno readers and our Bay Area sliders who love Mt. Rose.
Mt. Rose received 2-3 inches today and are looking forward to an early
November opening.  What's so great about Rose?  It feels more like
a club than a resort, with plenty of passholders who know how to
ski and ride (courteously).  Enough vertical to choke a horse, yet
some of the best beginner terrain in Tahoe.  Webcams available at
http://www.skirose.com.  Mt. Rose, in conjunction with Reno offers
some fantastic ski and stay specials.  (don't spend too much time
in the casinos, dear sliders) Reno Ski & Stay Packages available
from $69 http://www.skirose.com/general_information/lodging_packages.php
