TOP 5: WAYS TO GET IN SHAPE FOR SKI SEASON Make your days on the slopes even better and more comfortable by getting physically ready for ski season. 1. Up your endurance- Get your heart ready for a long day of skiing or riding by prepping for your trip with three to five 20-45 minute cardio workouts such as running, rollerblading, elliptical trainer, stairmasters or aerobics classes each week and add a longer workout once a week as you get closer to your trip. 2. Get those thighs ready to burn- The quadriceps are one of the most used muscle groups when on the slopes, so get them ready with exercises such as squats, lunges and leg presses. 3. Be stable- The hamstrings and glutes help stabilize the body. Work these muscles out with deadlifts, leg curls and lunges. 4. Get ready to flex- The back and abs help keep our bodies in a forward position, and the lats help when on a flat surface or pushing uphill using poles. Work these muscles out with crunches, bicycles, woodchops, back extensions and lat pulldowns. 5. Don’t forget to stretch- making sure your limber and flexible helps to prevent injuries.
